Ground Digger is a mobile 3d arcade digging game with a hyper-casual vibe. Following in steps of Motherload and many similar titles, this one offers 3d graphics... and some serious amount of ads.
In terms of looks, Ground Digger seems a little uneven. 3d blocky ground is as simple as pleasant to watch, especially when it crumbles & breaks into pieces. Also, the backgrounds with parallax effect seem pretty decent with some mysterious, underground sceneries. At the same time, many elements (like the UI) seem overly simplified, like the game needed to be released quick & cheaply.
The gameplay consists mainly of dragging the screen to make your drill go in a given direction - or start to crush the ground blocking your way. Destroying earth parts will yield blocks, but more importantly, it'll allow you to access gems required to break barriers and to advance levels below. Both those resources could be used - after getting back above - to get some upgrades - four you or your idle mini-drills. There also seems to be some sort of fuel management in place - or it was there some time ago.
Gradually, the ground will become tougher - but your drill will also become more powerful (and larger), making digging somehow enjoyable. Still, you'll soon notice that there's not much to do - and not much skill/strategy needed. It could be that after some recent changes, the title became more and more "casual", simplifying whatever can be simplified. Aside from upgrades, customization is the only thing possible here - mostly basic recolors.
Yet, the biggest problem with Ground Digger seems to be its monetization. There's an in-game shop where you can get free power-ups for several bucks (although they didn't introduce premium currency). You can also, as an alternative to getting standard upgrades with resources - watch an ad or two. Even if you skip this, the game will bombard you with temporary boost offers in exchange for watching videos. Skip those, too - they'll show forced ads anyway. To add insult to injury, you'll need to watch some promo banners all the time at the bottom of the screen.
